Wide Mouth Glass Jars

Wide Mouth Glass Jars

I decided to bring my opinion about the wide month glass jars in response to the emails I have been receiving from people who wants to know about the best canning jars. People are asking which item is better for canning, the wide mouth or regular mouth jars? And my answer to that question is: it depends on personal preference and it also depends on the size of the jar that you will be using the most.
As you already know, depending on what you are bringing in from and what your canning the size is going to vary. Most of the time if you're doing green beans potatoes, pickles beets a lot of those types of product you're going to stick with the quart size canning jar, and at the quart size it just pretty much is your personal preference on whether you use the regular mouth or the wide mouth.

I tend to like the wide mouth when I'm using a quart size simply because when I'm actually canning I can get my hand down in there if I need to push the ingredients in or do any mixing or there is that step where we want to get the air bubbles and being able to get that good vacuum seal that we're looking for.
On the regular mouth, it just has a slightly smaller opening to be able to be working with but it still works just as well depending on the size of your hand palm. However, once you start getting into the smaller sizes now you're pretty much stuck with what the company gives you. When you have your half gallon size, the best choice is automatically going to be the wide mouth simply because of the size of the item. In certain situations, it’s only when you move down to the half pint that the size becomes better.

Some people consider that the regular mouth quart size tend to be cheaper. They also argue that having small surface to seal, the seals and rings of the regular mouth jars can be replaced at low cost. However, after several comparisons and analyzes I end up realizing that there is no significant difference in the price within them and that there is almost no difference if they are made of similar material and are of same capacity.

Again, which product you are canning and which do you personally prefer when you're doing the work may affect your choice. But, always bear in mind that by getting your hand into the wide mouth jars you will end up realizing that they are easier to clean. So, for me, I like the wide mouth glass jars when I can and then I'll use the regular mouth when I can't.
